Saveetha University News:
Saveetha
Dental College conducting
STARSummit:2015
from June 29th
Chennai: Saveetha Dental
College conducting Transdisciplinary Annual Research Summit (STARSummit:2015)
from 29th June to 11th July 2015 at Saveetha Dental College,Poonnamalle. The STAR
summit spans over a period of 12 days. 1400 research projects of undergraduate
students will be showcased, among them 53 papers have been accepted to be
published for the month of May. STAR summit will have 4 days dedicated
exclusively for basic medical sciences, two days for preclinical research work
and six days for clinical research. What other place would be more apt to
display these projects than the library where the thinking caps go on the
student’s brains. The students’ work will be reviewed and appraised by other
students, their peers from other colleges and also from eminent faculties in
each fraternity. Gone are the days where a research has to percolate through
many barriers to reach their pedestal, Saveetha offering a priceless platform
for students to reach out and extend arms to the scientific globe around us.
As quoted by Dr. Deepak Nallasamy, Director
of Academics, Saveetha University “Igniting passion for research is the
responsibility of an institution. We at Saveetha take this responsibility
serious to empower our students to have all the required professional skills”
Research with a mind for
the future direction towards diagnosis and therapeutics forms a pivot for the
evolution and enhancement of the health care front. Synchronizing with this
thought, Saveetha Dental College has embarked on a research platform which is
the first of its kind amongst any educational institution in India. Our UG
curriculum is designed and tailored so as to motivate the budding scholars of
our institution to re-search with endurance and perseverance. A systematic
protocol with regular documentation and monitoring enables the student to
achieve their target. Saveetha Transdisciplinary Annual Research Summit
(STARSummit) has evolved as an arena to present the elaborate research work
done by the young minds.
This academic deliberation spans
over a period of 12 days and will comprise of research work across all
disciplines of dentistry including basic medical sciences. Apart from providing
a platform to present their research, STARSummit also gives an opportunity for
the students to hone their analytical skills, defend their work and appraise
other works. Synchronizing the teaching curriculum with research right from the
undergraduate level enables our students to have an edge over others in this
competitive scenario with the STARSummit being the stepping stone for achieving
greater heights.

Saveetha University: Phase II of Med Counselling on June 15th
Saveetha University:
Phase II of Med Counselling on June 15th
CHENNAI: Saveetha University found a place in the priority merit list of almost all high-scoring in Uni-GAUGE EMeD 2015 Medical MBBS aspirants in the city on Day One of the counselling for MBBS/BDS, held in the city on Monday.
The counselling for II-phase admission into Medical courses of Saveetha University will be held on the Saveetha Medical college ,Saveetha Nagar,Thandalam here on June 15.
The first phase of admissions concluded on June 8. The second phase is being conducted to fill the vacant seats.Candidates securing merit listing, between 1 to 150 based on "Uni-GAUGE EMeD 2015 Medical" were invited to attend the counselling.
Counselling for MBBS began full throttle on Monday with University Chancellor N M Veeraiyan handing out the allotment orders of whom chose to study at the Prestigeous, nation wide ranking medical college.
PARENTS’ VIEW:
The admission process was unique in its emphasis on rigorous testing and cherry picking of students
through various qualitative procedure to identify conceptual clarity, communication and analytical skills as well as personal interaction with both candidates and parents, all of which we believe, will enhance the quality of these future Doctors through keen competition and unique contribution to the community.
The Counselling which was held on 8th June, carried all the hallmark of a focussed and directed effort at achieving the above objective. As parents, were surprisingly exposed to a highly transparent admission process, rarely associated with private education in India.
With parents being given a rare opportunity to interact and understand common problems and challenges faced by the cohort, they felt quite a bit of anxiety vanishing when they saw that they were not alone. The well set out procedure of published merit list being adhered to methodically in the counselling process and the screening of documents, health etc, were achieved through some sensible planning which of course could be improved given time constraints of parents. But it only showed how much caring goes into education for their children, when they did not hear any complaints but only anxious faces and crossed fingers. Parents laud the efforts of this University which has set high standards all around, be it quality of education or discipline and now in an area of great concern all around ie. a transparent admission process.
STUDENT’S VIEW:
An introduction to a college for a school student would most likely border on a spectrum of emotions
ranging from mild trepidation to great unease or even alarm. So when a Counselling call was received from Saveetha University, students approached the portals with more than a bit of disquiet. Students
enlightened experience of the day was one of a mixture of welcoming human touch lent by students laced with meticulous professionalism from the Saveetha University representatives.
The initial part of the process was devoted to a stringent screening process consisting of a Group
Discussion which was about ‘How road traffic accident incidence could be lowered in India’. This was a subject which a typical 18 year old could relate to, as well as should be concerned about, as, most of us are waiting to jump into a driving seat and should surely dwell about? I got acquainted with a good number of fellow candidates and could identify a natural fit within the peer group. This introduction was followed by an aptitude test which made us scratch our heads and hopefully identify correct answers to lots of hypothetical scenarios in a logical manner.
Once the mundane document verification was done, we slogged through the grinding job of filling up of loads of documents, in where we were helped by student volunteers. This gave us an opportunity to make small talk on lots of aspects of college life, from greeting spooky cadavers to humorous hostel life.
I can’t wait to get at it!After a medical screening and made to measure uniforms, we were treated to
a sumptuous and surely well deserved lunch. Finally we waited on tenterhooks for the much awaited ‘Admission notice’ which took long enough and when it did arrive, I gave a sign of great relief. I got my parents off my back and their smiles were reward in itself.

paper in Periodontics from Saveetha University
Sub: Laying down guidelines for Autologous
platelets concentrate treatment in Periodontics-a review
“Cochrane” refers to a global independent
network of researchers, professionals, patients, and people interested in
health. Cochrane contributors, from more than 120 countries, work together to
produce credible, accessible health information that is free from commercial
sponsorship and other conflicts of interest. The work published in Cochrane is
recognized as representing an international gold standard for high quality,
trusted information. Moreover, the Cochrane stands out with its published
systematic reviews with an esteemed impact factor of 5.940.
The
Cochrane contributors are involved in gathering and summarizing the best evidence
from research to help its audience and make informed choices about treatment. The
mission of Cochrane is to provide accessible, credible information to support
informed decision-making for improving global health. Cochrane evidence provides a powerful tool to
enhance the healthcare knowledge and decision making.
As access
to health evidence increases, so do the risks of misinterpreting complex
content; meanwhile the likelihood of any one person getting a complete and
balanced picture decreases. The mission of Cochrane is to provide this complex information
in the form of high quality systematic reviews which are updated in a timely
basis by the contributors, to support informed decision-making and evidence
based interventions which would result in improved global health.
Cochrane's
contributors are affiliated to the organization through Cochrane groups:
healthcare subject-related review groups, thematic networks, groups concerned
with the methodology of systematic reviews, and regional centres. One of such
group held in INDIA is Cochrane Oral Health Group. We feel proud to be the part
of this group with our contribution towards the same.
